UNC Faculty and WISE Member Contributes to Launch of the Chemistry Women Mentorship Network

Professor Jillian Dempsey (Chemistry, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) and Professor Brandi Cossairt (Chemistry, University of Washington) have worked together to launch the Chemistry Women Mentoring Network (CHEM WMN).  This national network of women will serve as a resource to young women interested in pursuing a career in academic chemistry.  The networked is currently made up of over thirty chemists from twenty different U.S. states (and Canada!).

The mentoring structure is vertical, and it considers the role of mentorship at all stages of the academic pipeline including undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty.  The program seeks to not only build relationships between women in chemistry, but to make the climate in academic chemistry more comfortable.

Prospective mentees currently include undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral scholars. All may apply online.  Questions can be directed to chemWMN@gmail.com.
