July Meeting

Jazz Dickinson will lead our discussion on Monday, July 7th from 5:30PM-6:30PM in Venable 2204. Our discussion will be based on a recently published article which finds that male faculty hire fewer women graduate students and post-docs than female faculty members (http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2014/06/25/1403334111). In addition, the researchers found that “elite” male faculty, such as those who have won major career awards, train significantly fewer women than other male faculty.

At the July WISE meeting, we will discuss the potential reasons for this hiring discrepancy, the implications for women scientists, and ways to address this problem.
